Car Reviews: 2013 Ford Escape SE

In a mobile society consumers have come to expect a lot from their cars, and those seeking a quality small crossover utility vehicle should be pleasantly surprised by the amenities that can be found in the 2013 Ford Escape SE. While the basic model has a suggested retail price starting at $25,070 the overall cost is a relative bargain when all of the standard features are more closely examined in comparison with similar vehicles available in this class.

Mechanically the 2013 Ford Escape SE offers a superior technological advantage over most of the competition by means of a 1.6L EcoBoost I-4 engine that blends turbocharging and direct injection to enable 178 horsepower and 184lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission allows upshifting or downshifting to accommodate road conditions smoothly and with little effort. AdvanceTrac with roll stability control, torque vectoring control and traction control are enhanced by an intelligent 4 wheel drive system that updates every 16 milliseconds that adjusts torque almost instantly. A four wheel disc anti-lock brake system allows consistent stopping power and prevents wheels from locking when the brakes are applied hard and fast.

On the interior, the 2013 Ford Escape SE has all of the bells and whistles that one might expect on a more expensive automobile starting with a manual tilt and telescoping steering wheel with cruise and audio controls at your fingertips. Between the front seats a center console features a storage compartment with two cup holders and an overhead console that can hold sunglasses or other small item. Additionally there are two more cup holders in the front door arms and 4 more total cup holders for passengers in the rear. Other interior features include a grab handle for each car door, carpeted floor mats in both the front and rear seating areas, sun visors with dual vanity mirrors, power windows, a message center and trip computer, a center dome light with map lights and much, much more. Any way you slice it this car is loaded with excellent standard features at no extra cost.

The 2013 Ford Escape SE has an exterior that is quite sporty for this class of car as well, with privacy glass on rear doors and quarter windows, fog lamps, dual chrome exhaust tips and a chrome grill bar there is plenty of sparkle to make this car stand out from the pack. The body colored rear spoiler is a nice touch to go along with the stylish 17 inch painted alloy wheels.

As far as safety features go the 2013 Ford Escape SE offers the normal compliment of assorted airbags for front and rear passengers, but what really stands out is a feature named MyKey. This wonderful creation allows parents of new drivers to restrict the vehicle's top speed to a predetermined setting and enables the volume of the audio system to be lowered to 44 percent of maximum volume to help avoid distracted driving accidents.
